However, temptation has been nipping at my heels and after seeing the trailer last weekend at the theatre, I honestly don't know whether to pull out my robe and snuggle up with "Cloud Atlas" the novel or pre-order tickets for the premiere of "Cloud Atlas" the movie which looks to be one of the best to come out in 2012.
I first saw the trailer for "Cloud Atlas" in the 30 minute block of previews (I'm not exaggerating) before a showing of "Looper," which was pretty great by the way (kudos to Joseph Gordon-Levitt). It's been a long time since a movie trailer made my tear ducts twitch and I have to admit that well into the beginning of "Looper" I was still making mental notes to rewatch the trailer when I got home. And wouldn't it be selfish to keep a little gem like this all to myself? So, here I am, poking my head above ground for a moment to share it with all of you good people...
Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future. Each member of the ensemble appears in multiple roles as the stories move through time. -- (C) Warner Bros.R, 2 hr. 43 min.
And now that you've seen it too, what did you think? Will you read first, then watch or will the anticipation be too much for you?
Well, as you think on that, consider this:
"Cloud Atlas," the movie, won't be released in theatres until October 26th.
"Cloud Atlas," the novel by David Mitchell, is available now on Amazon in paperback for $9.00.
Also, I must mention that while typing this post, I left the tab open to cloudatlas.warnerbros.com and absentmindedly listened to a preview of the soundtrack from the movie. Honestly, usually I shut that kind of thing off right away but this time, I let it play. It was thoughtful, dreamy and as promisingly provocative as the movie...boy I hope it's good...and it also reminded me that I really should start taking piano lessons again.
