GEEKTIME! CHATTER
-Ralph Cirella stated that the only "Star Trek" movies that are worth watching are the even numbered films to which Jon Hein and Jason Kaplan vehemently disagreed. They argued that "Star Trek III - The Search for Spock" should be included as one of the top movies of the Trek franchise.
-Happy Birthday to Ralph's mommy.
-After being bed ridden for almost two weeks, Ralph has become completely obsessed with watching television online to the point where he even refused an offer to borrow Jon Hein's DVD collection of "The Larry Sanders Show" because he doesn't want to fool with handling bulky DVDs.
-Cirella was not able to attend New York Comic Con due to his illness, or merely because he couldn't tear himself away from watching instant streaming, but he did take a moment to gush over Jim Lee's new Batman alloy diecast figurine.
-Jon Hein admitted that he has become an Apple packaging hoarder, stating that the boxes are so well designed he has difficulty tossing them into the garbage.
-It was announced at this year's NYCC that Scott Snyder and Jim Lee are teaming up to create a new Superman story arc for DC Comics in 2013. IGN quoted Snyder who said about the upcoming project, "I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just say it's the Superman story I'd write if I only ever got one chance to write the character. It's an exploration of everything I love and am fascinated by about him. Like Court of Owls for Batman, it's a character piece for Clark -- it's going to challenge him to his core."
-Jim Lee tweeted to GEEKTIME! during the show: @JimLee "#FF The show for us geeks on SiriusXM @mygeektime @SiriusStevieB @Siriusjay @jonmhein on now! #howard101"
-Mark your calendars! October 23rd is the official date of the announcement event for Apple's newest gadget the iPad Mini. Ralph is already singing praises for the Mini, claiming that his regular sized iPad is just too darn heavy to lug around.
-TNT has put out a 6 episode order for Frank Darabont's new series "LA Noir." The show, similar in style to the film "LA Confidential," stars many ex-"Walking Dead" cast members including the popular Jon Bernthal who played Shane in the series.
-Ralph geeked out over several new online trailers recently released and promised to fill his Twitter feed @mygeektime with the links which included the season trailer to "Arrow," the new "Mockingbird Lane" promo and a behind the scenes look at the making of "Frankenweinie." Cirella also stated that he will not unblock you on Twitter, even if you ask Jason nicely.
-This was the 7th year of New York Comic Con and also its largest attendance record to date. NYCC started in 2006 with 33,000 fans and this year's four day nerd festival featured around 116,000 people all crammed into the same Javits Center built to hold half that size.
-Jon Hein voiced his concern that NYCC is getting so big that it is beginning to resemble San Diego Comic Con, which has notoriously become more involved in movies and TV and less about the comic books.
-In addition to his upcoming Superman project, Scott Snyder is also writing a new miniseries for Vertigo called "The Wake." It has been described as an undersea horror story with Punk Rock Jesus' Sean Murphy doing the art.
-Jeff Lemire is coming out with a new sci-fi saga, also for Vertigo, called "Trillium" which is being touted as "the last love story ever told."
-Marvel is coming out with a "Gaurdians of the Galaxy" series in 2013 by the dynamic creative duo of Brian Michael Bendis and Steve McNiven.
-A new "Secret Avengers" is going to be released February 2013 featuring the writer of "Morning Glories," Nick Spencer and artist Luke Ross.
-Legendary Pictures is teaming up with Guillermo del Toro to produce a prequel graphic novel for Del Toro's upcoming movie "Pacific Rim."
-Image is coming out with a new title called "Snapshot" by Andy Diggle and Jock. The premise of the book follows a comic book nerd being hunted by a hitman after he finds a cell phone that holds incriminating photos.
-Stan Lee made an appearance at NYCC this year to announce the launch of his YouTube channel called Stan Lee's World of Heroes. Adrianne Curry has a featured show on Lee's channel about interviewing Superfans, which has gotten mixed reviews from fans.
-There was a surprise announcement by Joss Whedon at the Marvel TV panel that Agent Coulson will indeed be in the pilot of the Avengers series. Steve Brandano voiced his displeasure of resurrecting dead characters, especially if their deaths were significant to character motivation and plot lines.
-"The Walking Dead" panel was one of the most popular panels of the weekend and while no spoilers were announced, producer Glen Mazzara did say, "over the life of the show, nobody is safe. I've had conversations with the writers about the demise of every single character that's been onscreen, so don't get attached to anyone."
-Jon, Ralph, Steve and Jason engaged Ethan Sacks in a discussion over who they would be sad to see die in "The Walking Dead" television series and whom they would mind the least if they died. The points racked up as follows:
Brandano - Sad if Glen died
Jason - Sad if Hershel died
Jon - Sad if Carl died
Nobody would be sad to say goodbye to Lori, T-bone, Maggie or Carl's nameless crush.
-Ethan reported that the biggest buzz of the Con was James Wan's (Insidious) new horror film "The Conjuring" starring Patrick Wilson. After showing a sneak preview to audiences at the con, many were still reeling from the fright they got from the trailer.
-Jason said that the biggest line at NYCC was to play Immortals 2.
-J.H. Wyman is directing the last episode of the entire "Fringe" series which also happens to be ep. #100.
-There was a lot of bittersweet gushing by the GEEKTIME! cast during the interview with Wyman over the last season of "Fringe." As they feel partly responsible for saving the show from several threats of cancellation, the GEEKTIME! boys feel a vested interest in the final days of what they claim to have been a wonderful series.
-J.H. admitted that the writers have had trouble finishing scripts, not because of problems with editing or continuity, but because they don't want the show to be over.
-Ralph Cirella and Jon Hein praise the casting of the daughter, for she is not only beautiful but a perfect blend of her onscreen parents.
-Wyman discusses his wish to consistently steer "Fringe" towards themes of compassion and humanity, even at the possible expense of omitting action scenes.
-Jon Hein is afraid that "Fringe" will break his heart when it comes to ending Walter's plot line, to which Wyman responded that the show, more than anything else, is a family drama. The resolutions may not always be expected but they will make sense.
-GEEKTIME! world premiere announcement: Episode 9 called "Black Blotter" will be the "odd, experimental episode" this season. An example of previous experimentation episodes include the popular animated episode.
-HBO is premiering a movie called "The Girl" about Alfred Hitchcock and the making of "The Birds."
-February 14th is the date for the premiere of the new Die Hard movie called "A Good Day to Die Hard."
-Box Office: #1 "Taken 2" and #2 "Argo"
-Upcoming releases: "Alex Cross," "Paranormal Activity 4" and "Cloud Atlas."
-Sunday night continues to be the most crowded night on television for the GEEKTIME! staff. Ralph was disappointed in this week's episode of "Boardwalk Empire," to which Jon Hein suggested he rewatch it and fast forward through all the Margret scenes.
-Ralph likes CW's comic book based television show "Arrow," but suggests that they incorporate a mask instead of makeup.
-"The Walking Dead" premiere got lots of praise from GEEKTIME!, especially the riot gear wearing zombies at the prison.
-Ralph recommends "Cabin in the Woods" and Jon Hein said that despite mixed reviews he will now see it.
-Steve Brandano recommends renting "Moonrise Kingdom" recently released on DVD.
-Jim Lee tweeted to GEEKTIME! during the show: @JimLee "#FF The show for us geeks on SiriusXM @mygeektime @SiriusStevieB @Siriusjay @jonmhein on now! #howard101"
