Just kidding, honey! (Seriously though, if you are a cutie celebrity and you wanna smooch...I could get the necessary clearance. Wink, wink Corbin Bernson)
So, when asked about celebrity encounters at NYCC, I have a brief and organized response tailored specifically for the askee. Typically I start off my list by mentioning a Mark Hamill sighting, ya know if they like nerd stuff, I throw in Adam Brody, Josh Gad and Frankie Muniz for the typical US Weekly celebrity stalkers, sprinkle in some Corbin Bernson for the Psych and Major League fans but honestly, if it were up to me, I would say the "celebrity" I was most excited to have met was average guy and producer of The Howard Stern Show, Gary Dell'Abate.
Maybe it's because I'm a fan of the show, but I like to think mostly I enjoyed meeting Gary because...well...to be blunt, he didn't make everything about himself as most celebrity speakers are apt to do. He was focused, had clearly done some homework on the cast and treated his position as moderator of the panel promoting MTV's upcoming animated show Good Vibes with the same exuberance and professionalism he expects of his own employees on The Howard Stern Show. (Just ask Scott the Engineer about requesting days off for a bowling tournament) I don't know if Gary necessarily likes comic books or superhero movies as much as, say Ralph or Howard, but he was asked to do a job and like a dutiful "guest star" he stuck to the script and totally delivered.
More Gary Dell'Abate and a video clip of his performance at New York Comic Con after the jump:
From the perspective of a Con-goer that attended several panels over two jam packed days at NYCC, I thought MTV's Vibes panel was one of the most thought out and well produced segments of the entire weekend. I attribute its success to a few key ingredients: Gary's charm and obvious preparedness as a moderator, full attendance of celebrity cast members, a sneak peak screening of the entire first episode and MTV provided audience members with primo swag: quality t-shirts as a small thank you for attending.
Embedded below is a short clip of Gary's performance as moderator. Please note that Gary is wearing the same purple button down shirt that can be found in every single photo on BabaBooey.com. Gary does look physically fit, he has slimmed down considerably, but perhaps it's time to retire good ol' purple from the "public appearance rotation" and maybe find something in a nice shade of green.
Sheesh. Where was Ralph when you needed him Gary? Oh, that's right, he was too busy getting ready for The Avengers panel over at the IGN Theater.
Enjoy!
Credits: The panel was moderated by Baba Booey himself, Gary Dell'Abate, executive producer of The Howard Stern Show, and featured cast members Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Suburgatory), Adam Brody (The OC), Josh Gad (Book of Mormon), Debi Mazar (Entourage) and Olivia Thirlby (Bored to Death), along with creator David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Your Highness) and executive producers Tom Brady and Brad Ableson (The Simpsons), and Mike Clements (Life and Times of Tim, Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea).
Side note: Josh Gad and I competed against each other in forensics when we were in highschool. I was dying to ask if he remembered me from high school. My guess is no, but anyway, just sayin.
The panel Gary hosted was for MTV's newest animated show called Good Vibes:
Transplanted Jersey boy, Mondo and his best bud Woodie are on a mission to surf the biggest waves, crash the wildest parties and chase the prettiest girls in Playa Del Toro - a California beach town where bikinis rule and the vibe is an endless summer.
