Total Geek to Hot Chick of the Week! - A Nerd's Tale

My whole life, I've been a nerd.

Not it in the cute way that now has become so popular to claim, but in the painful, outcast never-invited-to-parties sort of way. Don't feel bad for me, unless you're that guy from highschool who used to mercilessly tease me in Algebra class, then it's okay if you feel completely horrible about scarring me for life. You know who you are. But, for the most part, I'm okay with who I am. As an adult I've come to terms with the fact that I am nerd, I'm even pretty proud of it. Hell, I even started a website dedicated to nerds!

All of this I know and all of this I have accepted. What I never expected, however, was for anyone to see me as anything other than an awkward nerd...and boy, is it weird living life on the other end of the "cool" spectrum!

A Sherlock Holmes New Year's Resolution

The first week of the new year has officially come to a close and I am happy to report that my one and only New Year's resolution is coming along quite nicely.

Okay, so it's not really a resolution as it is more of a "New Year's Project," but I have resolved to spend the first precious weeks of 2013 reading the complete collection Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes series.

You see, while the rest of the world was wrapping presents and scarfing ham over the holidays, I was catching up on some great television via Netflix (gotta love the instant streaming feature for the iPhone).

And while there are many shows worthy of my precious viewing time, one of the most stellar shows I had the great fortune to stumble upon was BBC's latest original programming superstar 'Sherlock,' a show of which I am wholeheartedly convinced will find the media success 'Downton Abbey' is currently enjoying, I'm just waiting for everyone else to catch up.

It's Evil, it's Dead and it's Back! - New 'Evil Dead' Red-Band Trailer

Just when you thought the 'Evil Dead' franchise had finally been put to rest, destined to live on in infamy as a couple of the greatest cult classic films of all time...they go and make a new one.

Remakes are a dubious venture, especially when it involves the kind of loyal fandom that follows the 'Evil Dead' movie franchise. Unsuccessful "movie do-overs" often miss the mark by staying too close to the original script, leaving faithful fans feeling unsatisfied, yearning for the original, and questioning why anyone would ever want to try and improve upon perfection.

But, most producers aren't Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert.

Raimi, who was the fledgling director of the 1981 original 'The Evil Dead' and Campbell, the actor who played Ash in the original and all subsequent 'Dead' films, have teamed up and are determined to make 2013's 'Evil Dead' a little less goofy and a helluva lot scarier.

Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer

The trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness was released today exclusively for iTunes Movie Trailers, yippee!

After the glowing success of the first Star Trek rebooted movie franchise film, it is understandable that the expectations for a stellar sophomore performance from director J.J. Abrams are very high. The script was written by Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Fringe, Transformers), Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Fringe, Transformers) and Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus, Cowboys & Aliens) and features return performances by the dashing Chris Pine, the ever dapper Zachary Quinto and the feisty princess of sci-fi Zoe Saldana. The official release date is set for May 17, 2013.

And on a personal note, anyone else think the narrator's voice on the trailer sounds a little bit like Patrick Stewart? Anyone? OK, just thought I'd throw that out there. Carry on and enjoy.

Plot Summary:
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

YouTube debuts new episodes of Battlestar Galactica!

Luke Pasqualino as young William Adama
It's been almost three years since SyFy's original series "Battlestar Galactica" aired its final episode. And for three years I've been searching for something to take its place.

Well, now I don't have to.

Starting today, Friday November 9th, SyFy has begun releasing mini "websiodes" of their newest addition to the Battlestar Galactica Saga called "Blood and Chrome" on the YouTube Channel Machinima. The episodes, which are roughly 7-11 minutes in length, will follow the trials and tribulations of a young William Adama in his early years as a pilot on Galactica.

So far, "Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome" has all the elements a true fan has come to expect out of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica franchise. There is plenty of action to the tune of heart pounding drum music, the graphics are impressive, although it looks as if the director took a page out of the J.J. Abrams light shining at the screen trick a la Star Trek, and the acting is solid.

My only gripe is that SyFy decided to release these mini-sodes on YouTube. "Battlestar Galactica" is what put SyFy original programming on the map and in turn, the network is going to take these pretty, beautiful new episodes and Olsen Twin straight to DVD them? Was "Caprica" that much of a horrific experience for SyFy that they somehow think the franchise in unsalvageable? BSG fans are loyal. Hell, we even pretended the series finale was good, even though it wasn't, just out of respect for the show. So what, "Caprica" sucked. Get back on that horse, riding a miniature pony instead is just plain cheating.
